Maureen Moriarty
Maureen has lived in Fair Lawn for the past 29 years, where she raised two daughters with her husband Michael Roney, and currently is the Chair of the Fair Lawn Stigma-Free Zone Initiative.
She holds a Masters of Social Work degree from Rutgers’ University. She serves on the Care Plus NJ Board, the Care Plus Foundation Board, the Bergen Regional Medical Center Community Oversight Board, and has chaired the Bergen County Healthy Families Advisory Board for almost 20 years.
While Maureen was obtaining her master’s degree, she worked for Rutgers’ Center for Community and Social Development, and that was the beginning of her community organizing career. Shortly thereafter, she was hired in 1994 by Prevent Child Abuse NJ as program evaluator for the two Healthy Families pilot sites in NJ. Healthy Families is a nationwide parent education and support program and Healthy Families Bergen and Essex County are Care Plus programs. Maureen also served as a Director of the Bergen County Healthy Families program.
She has been dedicated to ending the stigma of mental illness for the past 12 years through the work of the Care Plus Foundation. “My good friend and colleague, Mary Ann Uzzi, also a member of the Care Plus Foundation Board, started the Stigma-Free Zone Initiative in Paramus and was also instrumental in getting Bergen County designated a Stigma-Free County,” she says.
“The Paramus Stigma-Free Zone has been very successful, and I am very excited to replicate that success here in Fair Lawn. Now more than ever, we need to reach out to everyone suffering in silence and let them know there is help. I hope you will join us.”

The Counseling Center at Fair Lawn is a NJ state licensed outpatient substance abuse clinic offering an Intensive Outpatient Program as well as traditional outpatient services to adolescents, adults and their families. Licensed by the State of New Jersey, we make a point of saying that at The Counseling Center we do not treat addictions, but rather we treat people who are having issues with addictive substances. Our goal for every client is 100% continuing abstinence.
